Listening Skills Week at St John’s Nottingham Mon 26 - Fri 30 March
Led by Michael Grandey. A skills based course which also provides the basic counselling theory necessary to understand what constitutes good practice in listening in pastoral care. The aim of the course is to improve your performance as a listener. Led by Michael Grandey who is an ordained priest in the Church of England, having previously been a medical doctor. He is particularly interested in pastoral care and healing, and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Pastoral Counselling. Cost for week: £280 (includes meals and overnight accommodation). Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Tues 6 Mar, Wed 7 Mar 1.00 - 4.00
Both sessions must be attended to complete the course. Does your group have or work with vulnerable adults? These sessions will provide information on Derbyshire’s multi-agency definition of vulnerable adults, and the categories of abuse covered within Derbyshire’s agreed policies and procedures.
Befriending and Home from Hospital Thursdays 8 Mar, 15 Mar, 22 Mar, 29 Mar 5.00 - 7.00
This four week course provides you with the basic skills needed to become a befriender. Each session is two hours long and will concentrate on a different aspect of befriending such as listening, communication skills, advice on health and safety and lone working. (To complete this course, all sessions must be attended)
Committee Skills Wed 14 Mar 9.30 - 12.30
This training session will help you to gain the skills and knowledge to form and run a committee and hold effective meetings. This is ideal for committee members for new or existing groups.

Free Everyday First Aid Sessions from the British Red Cross
The sessions are a maximum of two hours long and focus on overcoming fears and concerns people may have about delivering first aid as well as teaching them first aid skills which are easy to do, easy to learn and easy to remember. In just a couple of hours, learners can become life-savers. Sessions can be delivered to groups ranging in size from about 8 to 20 people. Sessions are free of charge; although if groups wish to make a donation to support the work of the Red Cross, that is most welcome. (When groups have asked for guidance on this, we’ve suggested £5 to £15 per participant; however it is neither mandatory nor expected.) This training is open to anyone but targets those whose work (paid or unpaid) is likely to bring them into contact with people who are vulnerable to suicide or self harm. Suicide is a problem for society as a whole. To increase awareness - and to help remove the stigma which can be a barrier for those in need of help - this free half-day training seminar will cover
