Serve the City
What is Serve the City?
The founders of Serve the City describe it as “A movement of volunteers serving cities in practical ways and inspiring people to be givers in this world. We believe that many people doing small things together can make a big difference in our world”. It is simply sharing God’s love through acts of kindness.
Serve the City is an International movement which began in Belgium and is now active in 74 cities around the world, currently Derby is the only city in England with a Serve the City team. Serve the City was started by Christians and there are lots of Christians involved, but the nature of the movement allows and encourages partnership with people of no faith or other faith, local businesses and organisations who all share a common desire to serve the city and do a little something to make the world a better place.
Serve the City mobilises volunteers to show kindness in practical ways to people in need. Serve the City partners with homeless shelters, refugee centers, orphanages, senior homes and other associations and invites volunteers to offer practical help and support. Serve the City projects are often simple - sports, music, arts and crafts, teaching English, painting, serving food, and cutting hair. We are matchmakers - the connection between the good intentions of people who could serve and a meaningful opportunity to do so. By simple acts of kindness God’s love for all is shared.
We know them by their needs … what if we know them by their name?
