Street Pastor Application:-
The Directors of Derby City Mission and the Street Pastors Management Team are grateful to the continued good working relations with our City partners to keep the city a peaceful environment. The Police are again financially supporting the scheme in the new year, which is an amazing achievement in such a financial climate. At a recent meeting of the City Youth Service, PCT, Police, Council and NHS, it was announced that alcohol related ASB is down 85% from the end of 2008. This happens to be when the Derby Street Pastor Scheme was inaugurated. We cannot be sure that the scheme is responsible for this but along with our partners we hope that we have influenced the reduction.
The Street Pastors have assisted many people, prayed for some when requested and seen a number come to church. After the final weekend of the year, there was a thank you letter from a parent of a young man that the Saturday team had looked after. It makes it all worthwhile.
Chief Superintendent Andrew Hough, Police Commander of Derby Divisional Police has said;
“The Derby Street Pastors initiative within the city centre’s night time economy has represented a new and audacious approach to managing risk and threat. Their meticulous and caring manner has reduced the likelihood of a person vulnerable through ‘drink’ from being the victim of an assault. They have also prevented numerous disputes on our streets from developing into criminal disorder. That means that my officers are free to deal with other matters and that those, who ordinarily would not find themselves criminalised by an isolated incident caused by alcohol, are dealt with in an alternative way. This is a wonderful scheme and demonstrates how members of our community are working to make Derby a safer place.”

Chesterfield Street Pastors
Chesterfield Street Pastors was officially launched on 23 February by Christians Together in Chesterfield and is aiming to go live in July, in time for the long summer months when people stay out later in the evenings. Initially they will cover Saturday nights, as research has shown this is the main time people are out in the town centre. Funding is coming from various grants including from the police and the council, as well as from the churches themselves. Costs include training, uniforms, first aid and other equipment. It is also hoped that a paid coordinator will be appointed in the near future.
They are now recruiting volunteers for pastors. If you are interested, please contact John Bown, (01246) 590831 or
