Introduction and Foreword (408 kb)
The introduction includes a forward by Malcolm Duncan (leader of Faithworks), the contents section and an introduction to Faith in Action.
Chapter 1: Your Kingdom Come (811 kb)
In this chapter we will explore a theological foundation for our mission to the communities around us. What does it means to pray ‘your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven’? And how does this relate to the life of Christians and Churches? This could be a useful chapter for someone opening the concept of mission to a Mission Action Planning Away Day.
Chapter 2: Getting Started (802 kb)
This chapter is useful for Mission Action Planning. In it we will be considering how to develop a vision for mission and ministry in the community. We will look at it from two perspectives, first a Church developing its mission, and second, the wider local community setting its priorities using Parish Planning (here ‘parish’ refers to the local government area not Church of England parishes). How these two elements work together will depend on local circumstances but we need to be aware that God could be speaking to us through them both.
Chapter 3: Going Forward (1,241 kb)
In this chapter we will go into some of the detail of developing your project. We will think about planning your project, managing conflict, working with partners and volunteers, evaluating your project and work, sustainable funding issues, developing policy and resources.
Chapter 4: Use of Buildings (1,218 kb)
In this chapter we look at how we use our buildings in Community Mission. It includes practical help and resources for churches making adaptations. It also has information specific to a number of Christian denominations, including the specific contacts pertinent to Derbyshire churches. There are resources at the end of sections which relate to the text. Section 1 How we use our buildings – this section may particularly be of benefit some churches to aid discussions about plant in the process of Mission Action Planning.
Chapter 5: Listening to Others (3,761 kb)
The stories in this chapter are from a range of churches, locations, partnerships and with a variety of service users. These will provide information and inspiration rooted in reality. It is intended to be useful for reading as you develop your own vision of practical Christian Community Mission. It may also provide you with leads to research, opportunities to co-work, networks to explore, the chance to offer resources and pray for the work that is described. There are more case studies in the report ‘Faith in Derbyshire’. We intend to publish further examples in the future.
