Climate change is happening - how should we respond?

This is a critical issue for everyone

The FiA Environment pages are being dedicated to helping us explore the possibilities and rationales behind different courses of action so that each of us, whether individual, church or community, can find the appropriate action for us to take.

What is going on out there?

The environment group is helping churches in Derbyshire to coordinate their efforts on the environment.  Is your church doing something … please let us know about it.  Do you want your church to be involved … please get in touch I am sure we can help.

The Derby Diocesan Commitment to the Environment: a framework for action

The Framework was approved by Derby Diocesan Synod in 2006 and is now due for review - this may well happen in 2012.

Could the Derbyshire Eco Challenge help your church?

Derbyshire County Council and environmental charity Global Action Plan have teamed up to run the Derbyshire Eco Challenge. Each month until March 2012 participants will receive an email with 10 tips for a more positive impact on the environment with topics ranging from saving water and energy to “Love Food Hate Waste”.

It’s a great way to check that you’re doing some of the basics and also to be challenged to take some bigger steps for the environment. The tips should save people money on utility bills and help them to be more in control of household expenses.

Tom Veitch from Global Action Plan is running the project and is a member of West Derbyshire United Reformed Church. Tom said, “I think it’s a great opportunity for churches – you could take part as an individual, as a church team or even use the tips in church magazines as a way of engaging your local community.”

There are prize draws along the way and Tom is keen for people to suggest tips that they would like to share with other participants.
