Financial Inclusion Derbyshire Partnership / FID (excludes city)
The financial inclusion strategy has been agreed by the partnership and is currently being implemented by a wide range of interested parties including district, county, primary care trust, specialist advice agencies, social housing organisations and local credit unions. Click here to see the strategy.
The strategy focuses on addressing three key areas:-
Access to affordable credit, banking and savings
Debt advice (free) and income maximisation
Financial capability
Implementation sub groups exist for each of these areas. These groups feed into the wider FID partnership meetings.
Significant strides have been made in Bolsover and credit union facilities have expanded from Worksop into this region. Erewash Credit Union has begun to expand across the area into Amber valley as well as Long Eaton and Ilkeston, and Derby Credit Union offers a service to anyone working or living in Derby. We hope credit union facilities will soon be available more widely across the county as the strategy rolls out. Local advice agencies however are feeling the pressure of increased demand and in some cases, reduced funding.
Financial capability work has begun and a series of articles are available free to download and publicise.

‘St. Peter's CAP Centre opens in Derby’
Free Debt Advice in High Peak
From Monday 15th November, High Peak CAB has joined up with Chesterfield Law Centre to provide free specialist housing, employment, debt and benefits advice.
This development comes at a time when High Peak Citizens Bureau is reporting a massive increase in demand. The agency report user numbers up by 60% in three years, and a 100% increase in those seeking help with debt over the same period.
‘At times we have been struggling to cope with demand’, says Mr Minter. ‘Working with the Law Centre will help us see more people. We will continue to operate from 24 outlets across the area and give the advice we always have done. However, this now links into a new, free, specialist legal service’.
People seeking specialist legal advice on housing, employment, debt, benefits should phone 01298 214550 or call at CAB Offices, 26 Spring Gardens, Buxton.
